HowTo: Connect to the Local UaGateway with a COM Client

This HowTo describes how to connect to the local UaGateway using the OPC Quick Client from Kepware.

Locate and start the OPC Quick Client. To add the local UaGateway just press the green button “New Server” at the button bar of the Client or choose Edit → New Server Connection...

A dialog window called “Server Properties” will appear. Expand the tree, select UnifiedAutomation.UaGateway.1 and press OK.

The UaGateway now shows up in the top left window of the OPC Quick Client.

After that it is necessary to add a new group to the COM Client. This can either be done by clicking the button “New Group” or by choosing Edit → New Group... or by right-clicking at UnifiedAutomation.UaGateway.1 in the top left window.

The window “Group Properties” will appear. Change the default settings if required.

After clicking “OK”, the new group will show up in the top left window of the OPC Quick Client.

Now it is possible to add items to monitor to the client’s view. Click the green button “Add Items” at the button bar of the OPC Client, choose Edit → New Item... or right-click on the newly created group to open up the “Add Items” dialog.

Here it is possible to browse in the address space of the UaGateway and the connected OPC Servers. Select the desired items to monitor, press the button “Add Leaves” (or double-click on the items) and press the button “OK” to add the selected items to the group.
