Overview

This manual is an online reference and also contains general information about how to use the UaGateway. Please read the Introduction to UaGateway first before you start.

The UaGateway is a high-performance wrapper and proxy for easily migrating "classic" OPC products to the "new" OPC Unified Architecture (UA) technology and vice versa.

Using the Configuration Tool (UaGateway’s OPC UA client), connections to OPC UA, COM AE/DA/HDA, and XML-DA servers can be added. The address spaces of these underlying servers are mapped to the address space of the UaGateway’s OPC UA server. Thus, OPC UA clients can access the information provided by "classic" OPC servers. Moreover, the UaGateway can be used to aggregate information and serve as a single point of access.

In addition to that, the UaGateway contains an OPC COM DA and an OPC COM AE server. It’s possible to configure connections to underlying UA servers and make their information available to "classic" OPC Clients.

Product Features and Modules

The base version of UaGateway is a wrapper and proxy for "classic" OPC DA 2.05a, DA 3.0 and OPC UA. It includes the following modules:

OPC DA Client

OPC UA Client for Data Access
OPC UA Server for Data Access

The upgrade for Alarms and Events contains all features of the base version and can additionally act as wrapper and proxy for OPC A&E 1.1 and OPC UA. It contains the following additional modules:

OPC A&E Client
OPC A&E Server
OPC UA Client for Alarms and Events
OPC UA Server for Alarms and Events

The upgrade for Historical Data Access contains all features of the base version and can additionally act as wrapper and proxy for OPC HDA and OPC UA. It contains the following additional modules:

OPC HDA Client
OPC HDA Server
OPC UA Client for Historical Data Access
OPC UA Server for Historical Data Access

The upgrade for Tag File & Cache allows to import of a custom OPC UA type system and to create instances thereof either being mapped onto underlying tags of appropriate type OR being mapped onto internal "cache" variables. This addOn allows re-structure the address space instead of transparent pass-through (e.g. to adopt a certain companion model). It contains the following additional modules:

Tag file database (up to 500,000 tags)
Import format either CSV or XML (NodeSet2 format)
Mapping of external tags of underlying servers to internal variable NodeIDs
Add access rights (R, W, RW) to restrict access
Internal cache variable (with an option to persist the last value)

Note: The upgrades for Alarms and Events, Historical Data Access and Tagfile&Cache are add-ons to the base version of UaGateway, i.e. there’s no Alarms-and-Events-only or Historical-Data-Access-only version of UaGateway.
